, 74, the patriarch of the Louisiana family from the hit reality series, revealed on his "Unashamed" podcast with his four sons on Thursday that he recently determined he has a 45-year-old daughter from a decades-old affair.

"It's a pretty cool explanation of redemption, reconciliation, love," Robertson said. "As it turns out, 45 years, you have a daughter that you don't know about, and she has a father she doesn't know about. Forty-five years, that doesn't sound like very long but you say, that's a while. So finally, after all those years, we come together."

The family found out when a woman named Phyliss sent a letter to Robertson's son, Al, that said a DNA test indicated that Phil Robertson may be her father.

"Well once we get into that and start looking at it a little more deeply, I'm like, 'Oh whoa, whoa, there might be something to this,'" Al said on the podcast.

"I started thinking, there's a 45-year-old woman out there who doesn't know who her dad is, and she's looking," Al said. "And I thought, even if it's not dad, she needs to know it's not dad."

Phil decided to take a DNA test, which came back as a 99.9% match with Phyliss. He said he didn't hesitate to want to contact her.

The family has quickly embraced the daughter and sister they didn't know they had.

"I was so excited," Jep Robertson said. "It was to me like a dream come true."

"I got to hear that first conversation with mom and it was so neat because mom always has wanted a daughter," Al said. "Let's be honest, if a lot of women get news 45 years later there's a child they didn't know (their husband) had, it could not go well."

"Miss Kay over the entire 45 years warned me, or at least alerted me, she said someone will come out of your past, that wild ride of living,'' Phil said. "I said, 'You think?' She said, 'I think it would probably be a son, but in this case she said, 'I'm so glad it's a girl.'"

'Basically, it was from a woman who said that by a DNA search, she thinks that [our] Dad might be her dad,' Al said, identifying the 45-year-old woman by the name of Phyliss.

Al also said that he had at first 'dismissed' the letter as a wild claim, but Jase had also received a letter from the woman, claiming to be his sister.

But they were also reluctant to divulge the information because the woman's birthday looked to be after Phil had become a Christian in the 1970s.

Phil is a self-professed devout Christian, and a current member of and elder at the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana.

Robertson has in the past admitted to his philandering ways, but said it was before devoting himself to the church.

And when he commented on the matter of his newly discovered daughter on Thursday, mentions of God were not far behind.

'We know that in all things – in all things – even sin, God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose,' he said, in a paraphrase from the bible.

And when Phil agreed to take a DNA test, it was a '99.9 percent match,' according to Al.

He added that he had always wished he had a sister while growing up as the baby brother in a family of boys.

'It was like a dream come true.'

It should be noted that Phil's daughter, Phyliss, most probably was named for him.

No one was hurt in the incident, but the shooter has been ordered to turn in all of his firearms and stay away from the younger Robertson's estate for a minimum of two years.

During the latest episode of hisUnashamed podcast, theDuck Dynasty star revealed that he had an affair back in the '70s, and just recently discovered he has a 45-year-old daughter named Phyliss.

Robertson was joined on the podcast by his four other children, sons Al, Jase, Jep and Willie, whom he shares with his wife, Kay, who goes by Miss Kay. Al said the family first learned about Phyliss after she wrote him and his brother Jase a letter claiming to be their sister.

"Basically, it was from a woman who said that by a DNA search, she thinks that dad might be her dad," Al explained, saying they at first "dismissed" her claims. "Well, once we get into that and start looking at it a little more deeply, I'm like, 'Oh woah, woah... there might be something to this.'"

"We had to pursue it," he continued. "I started thinking, there's a 45-year-old woman out there who doesn't know who her dad is, and she's looking. And I thought, even if it's not dad, she needs to know it's not dad."

Al said after plenty of thought, he decided to approach his parents about the letter. Phil agreed to take a DNA test, which Al revealed was a "99.9 percent match." After discovering the results Phil requested that they "bring her on down" so they could all meet.

Phil then revealed that the family did, indeed, meet Phyliss. He saidDuck Dynasty fans will meet her soon enough, too, as they plan to have her on the podcast as a special guest.

"It's a pretty cool explanation of redemption, reconciliation, love," Phil said. "As it turns out, 45 years, you have a daughter that you don't know about, and she has a father she doesn't know about. So finally, after all those years, we come together."

Jep chimed in, sharing that he was actually super "excited" to find out about Phyliss because he always wanted a sister growing up.

"It was super awesome," he exclaimed. "It was like a dream come true."
